Grande Wormwood Leaf Absinthe Grille by Kirk Burkett, Sterling Silver

SKU: 32302
$280.00

A sterling silver art piece is crafted from silver alloyed with copper for durability. The metal is melted and shaped—either by hand or through casting—and refined with techniques like engraving or chasing. The finished piece is then polished or treated to enhance its shine, highlighting the skill and artistry behind its creation.

The grande absinthe plant, also known as Artemisia absinthium, is a perennial herb native to Europe and parts of Asia, prized for its aromatic leaves and bitter flavor. Historically used in traditional medicine and the production of absinthe, it contains essential oils that give the spirit its distinctive notes of anise, fennel, and wormwood. Recognizable by its silvery-green foliage and yellow flowers, grande absinthe thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, embodying both resilience and a storied cultural significance.

Each piece is made to order and is sent directly from Kirk to you. If requested, your initials can be added to the piece, next to Kirk's hallmark.

  • Sterling silver.
  • Measures 2.75" (7 cm) wide x 3.25" (10.6 cm) in length.
  • Will accommodate a 3.375" (8.5 cm) mouth diameter of a glass, or smaller.
  • Handcrafted in the United States.

A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring a dose of absinthe (usually an
ounce) into an absinthe glass. The grille is then placed on top of the glass. If desired, a sugar cube(s) can be added onto the grille. Ice water is slowly poured or dripped from a fountain or carafe onto the sugar. The water dissolves the sugar, and the cold, sugary mixture then falls through the holes in the grille into the glass of absinthe, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also turns milky white as the water joins with the anise in the absinthe.

Once the sugar has dissolved, the grille can be removed and the absinthe sampled. The strength and sweetness can be adjusted by adding more water or sugar to taste. The mix ratio depends on one’s liking - usually 1-part absinthe to 3 to 5 parts water
